Our Staff
Hillsboro House is staffed 24 hours a day by registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and nursing assistants. Many nursing facilities use staffing agencies or per diem personnel as a convenient way of handling their staffing needs. But at Hillsboro House, we never do that; it’s important to us that our staff be capable, experienced and personally familiar with our residents. Our staff comes from the same communities as our residents, so our staff members and our residents have often been long time friends and neighbors.
Some nursing facilities acknowledge that their staff turnover approaches 100% a year. Hillsboro House is different. Our staff’s average length of service approaches a decade. So the care our residents receive is both experienced and personal. And, of course, Hillsboro House has been operated by three generations of the same local family since 1965.
Families of prospective residents often ask about staffing ratios, hours of direct care, and staff qualifications. (Statistics about Hillsboro House staffing can be found at the Nursing Home Compare section of the www.medicare.gov website, where Hillsboro House has the only five star rating of all the nursing facilities in southwestern New Hampshire.)
But when families ask those sorts of statistical questions, we try gently to remind them that it’s the kinds of people on the staff, their experience and their compassion, that makes Hillsboro House extraordinarily special among nursing and rehabilitation facilities.
